Music of Bach and Handel

The Grosse Pointe Memorial Church choir and orchestra will present a small concert, featuring selections from some of the most beautiful sacred music written.

The concert, held at 10:15 a.m. (immediately after the 9:00a.m. church service) will feature the following:

• J.S. Bach’s Cantata #140 (“Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme”)
• G.F. Handel’s The Messiah

Everyone remembers the “Hallelujah Chorus” from The Messiah… but you’ll also very likely recognize Bach’s melodies from Cantata 140 a.k.a. “Sleeper’s Wake”, too. It’s one of Bach’s most famous and best loved works.
