The Michigan Opera Theater of Detroit will present Giacomo Puccini’s masterpiece opera, Madame Butterfly at the Detroit Opera House. Lynne will join the orchestra to perform this beautiful work. The text is translated to English with supertitles (a screen over the stage). Led by Maestro Edoardo Muller, the cast includes:

  • Mihoko Kinoshita and Marie Plette in the role of Cio-Cio San
  • James Valenti and David Pomeroy in the role of Pinkerton
  • Daniel Sutin in the role of Sharpless
  • Mika Shigematsu in the role of Suzuki
  • Joseph Hu in the role of Goro

As Mark Stryker of the Free Press notes, this is one of the greatest tear-jerker operas ever written. It’s a perfect first opera to see. Stryker warns: “Just don’t forget your hanky”.

David DiChiera, Artistic Director for the Michigan Opera Theater, offers a synopsis of this opera on the Detroit Opera House website. For this audio presentation, as well as tickets and directions, visit:
